We launched a new scheme this week to tackle chewing gum on Sutton High Street using a state-of-the-art machine that can evaporate chewing gum in seconds.
The equipment is supplied by British firm, Gumwand and uses an environmentally friendly cleaning agent and high-powered steam jet to remove the gum.
Our first of a new three times weekly clean-up operation began on Monday.
The initiative runs alongside Sutton Council’s street cleaning operations and is part of the BID’s commitment to creating a cleaner town centre, said Ross Feeney, CEO of Successful Sutton.
He added: “Our investment will dramatically lift the appeal of Sutton High Street for shoppers and businesses. The service is also more cost-effective than jet washing the High Street, which only goes so far.”
Previous initiatives to clean up the town centre have included deep-cleans of the High Street and alleyways.
