Despite torrential rain on Saturday (27th July) evening over 100 people braved the weather to enjoy Sutton’s first pop-up high street cinema. Successful Sutton, the town’s business improvement district, hosted the movie Ghostbusters as part of its Sunset Cinema season – four films on four nights at a pop-up cinema on the high street, all completely free.

Movie lovers settled down under umbrellas in front of a 7.5metre (24ft) screen to enjoy the Hollywood blockbuster Ghostbusters. During the day a replica Ecto 1 was on display in the high street, joined by the Ghostbusters team. The car drew a huge crowd all day, with many people stopping and having their photograph taken.
The pop-up high street cinema – the only one in London – will provide free screenings of the classic movies to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy an evening of al fresco entertainment. Ross Feeney, Successful Sutton Chief Executive, said: “The weather was not kind to us on Saturday night, but we still had a great turnout. The screen looked fantastic in the high street, and I hope that over the next three films even more people will come and enjoy Sutton. We are hoping that people come and enjoy a meal or a drink at one of our great bars and restaurants and then round off the evening with a classic movie. Hopefully the weather will be better next weekend when we are showing Grease”.
