Christmas Lights Switch On

November 15th marks the beginning of our countdown to Christmas, with a programme of fun family events starting at 12 noon, building up to the big switch on at 6pm.

To get you in the festive mood, here are some of the fun-filled activities you can look forward to on the day:

Street and stage entertainment – from 12 noon to 5pm

High Street acts include appearances from Hark the Herald Carol Singers, Angel Stilt Walkers, Felix Brent The English Gent, The Dapper Chaps and The Christmas puddings. Find out more in our Christmas supplement (see link at end of article).

DJ Mick Brown will be hosting community acts on the main stage, with giveaways planned throughout the afternoon.

Free face painting – 12 – 5pm

There will be free face painting in the St Nicolas Shopping Centre, outside Mothercare.

Sutton Land Train – 12 – 4pm

The Sutton Land Train will return for another day of free rides and festive cheer in the High Street.

Santa’s Grotto

The Times Square Shopping Centre Christmas Grotto will be open and is supporting The Royal Marsden Hospital again this year.

Christmas Market – 10- 5pm

The EcoLocal Christmas market will be on the High Street for one day only, with stalls offering high-quality, local crafts made by local people – including jewellery, glassware, handmade candles and soap, art work and Christmas decorations.

Big lights switch on – 5:30pm

Scott Robinson and Richie Neville from 90s pop boyband 5ive will sing a medley of their greatest hits on stage from 5:30pm, before joining the mayor of Sutton to switch on the lights at 6pm.

The SCOLA Christmas festival – 11am-3pm

The Sutton College of Learning for Adults (SCOLA) is hosting a Christmas fair and charity raffle at SCOLA’s Sutton Centre next to Sutton Central Library. Entry is free.

Festive fun at St Nicholas Shopping Centre

St Nicholas Shopping Centre will be running festive activities throughout November and December, including the return of Bjorn the Bear and carol singing in aid of St Raphael’s hospice. The full festive schedule can be found on the St Nicolas Shopping Centre website.
