Winners of Sutton Business Excellence Awards revealed

 

The 2014 Sutton Business Excellence Awards Winners were announced in front of a packed audience at the Holiday Inn on Friday 7th November.

Here’s a list of all our award winners:

BEST SME BUSINESS
Winner: J W Cannon
Clive Bowden, managing director of J W Cannon, said: “I would like to thank the judges and my team. We are delighted to have won this award which is another feather in the cap after we won an award for Best Marketing in similar awards two years ago.”
Judges’ comments: Councillor Jayne McCoy said: “This dynamic and innovative long-established business impressed the judges with its commitment and creative approach.”

BEST BUSINESS FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
Winner: J W Cannon
Clive Bowden, managing director of J W Cannon, said:
“My grandfather Jack Cannon started this company 66 years ago and we have built a long-running reputation for quality, reliability and customer care. We have once again demonstrated those attributes with our response to the winter floods around the turn of the year when we came to the rescue of countless families in the Surrey area. Thanks to all those who have made it happen – it is down to the whole team.”
Judges’ comments: Paul Curtis, a board member of Successful Sutton said: “This year’s winner has consistently put customer service at the heart of its business, winning new customers as a result.”

ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR
Winner: Jonathan Docksey (Design JD)
Jonathan Docksey of Design JD said: “This is brilliant. It has been great to be in Sutton building a business doing something we enjoy every day.”
Rebecca, of Carshalton College, said: “This year’s winning entrepreneur impressed the judges with a creative approach to business growth.”
Highly Commended: Lisa Malyon (Sense Communications). Commended: Vanessa Udal (Inspire Events, The Today Club, Tinies & House of Flowers).

 

COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY (sponsored by J W Cannon)
Winner: Lynchpin Leisure
Tony Lynch from Riva Bingo said: “We are delighted to win this award. I would like to pay tribute to the whole company and all those who made it happen.”
Judges’ comments: Clive Bowden, managing director of J W Cannon, said: “This year’s winner has made a significant contribution to Sutton’s community and impressed the judges with their community ethos.”

BEST GREEN BUSINESS
Winner: The Carshalton Patch
Andy Chandler and Mark Caswell of The Carshalton Patch said: “We love having our business in the borough of Sutton and would like to thank all our loyal customers and staff for helping us to win this award.”
Judges’ comments: “The Carshalton Patch impressed the judges with its innovative approach to sustainability, and with its huge base of local support.”
Commended: GoodChoice IT, Handyman In Your Community.

BEST BUSINESS FOR TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT (sponsored by Carshalton College)

Winner: Sense Communications

INDEPENDENT RETAILER OF THE YEAR

Winner: The Projekt Store

Georgia Podasta, Leanne Tarvin and Mike Lawrence of The Projekt Store said: “Thank you for this award we are blown away. We are truly honoured to win again. We love the town and fully support the work the BID (Successful Sutton) is doing to grow the town.”

Judges’ comments: Paul Burstow MP said: “Already an award-winning business, the winning store is clearly very highly regarded by its loyal customers.”

BEST BUSINESS FOR HOSPITALITY & LEISURE

Winner: The Raj

Raj said: “This is our first ever award for business and it is really amazing. I will keep my fingers crossed it helps to bring us extra customers.”

Judges’ comments: “Tonight’s winner has demonstrated continued growth and quality of service.”
